Historical Introduction

In this Chapter, we want to focus particularly on the historical circumstances of Richard Dedekind’s life and his relationships with contemporaries. We will see that Dedekind distinguished himself from his environment through his scientific achievements and his personality. In particular, his mathematical style and the way he communicated with colleagues testify to this.
