This chapter deals with impact processes between two bodies, i.e. motions in which two bodies come into contact with each other and which are accompanied by high forces that occur for a very limited time. Impacts result in a change in motion of the bodies involved, and in this chapter we classify impacts according to direct and oblique centric impacts, and also according to eccentric straight and oblique impacts. A fundamental distinction must also be made between ideally elastic, partially elastic and plastic impact processes.
