Electrochemical reactors are reaction devices in which a conversion between chemical and electrical energy takes place. They are frequently and diversely used in the chemical industry, for metal extraction, and in energy technology. This chapter presents the aspects specific to electrochemical reactors and discusses the consequences for design and operation. The current state of developments is illustrated using the technically significant examples of chlor-alkali electrolysis, PEM fuel cell, and redox flow battery.

摘要

Electrochemical reactors are reaction devices in which a conversion between chemical and electrical energy takes place. They are frequently and diversely used in the chemical industry, for metal extraction, and in energy technology. This chapter presents the aspects specific to electrochemical reactors and discusses the consequences for design and operation. The current state of developments is illustrated using the technically significant examples of chlor-alkali electrolysis, PEM fuel cell, and redox flow battery.
