Female Hard-Boiled Detective Fiction

Before the Second World War, women had achieved suffrage and had called attention to themselves, also as workers. The number of working women rose significantly during the Second World War when they were recruited into jobs that had been vacated by men; this also included married women and mothers. By 1941, women constituted one quarter of the workforce.
