Therapeutic Approaches for Persistent Somatic Symptoms, Somatoform Disorders, and Somatic Symptom Disorders
摘要
By the time patients with persistent somatic symptoms seek psychological treatment, they usually already have a long treatment history behind them, which is often characterized by contradictory information on diagnostics and intervention approaches. It is therefore not surprising that patients with persistent somatic symptoms of somatoform disorders are often very confused in their first contact with a therapist. In order to be able to advise patients appropriately, therapists and physicians need a sound knowledge of psychological as well as psychopharmacological treatment approaches and their effectiveness is of great importance. In correspondence with the current state of scientific knowledge, the third chapter provides an overview of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology approaches to persistent somatic symptoms and their findings. The chapter concludes with a summary of the most important contents of current evidence-based treatment guidelines for persistent somatic symptoms.
