Geodesics

In this chapter more objects used to describe Riemannian manifolds are introduced. In the first section, the differential geometry of submanifolds is studied by means of the 2nd fundamental form. Since our visual intuition is mainly restricted to surfaces in three-dimensional Euclidean space, one can better understand the geometric manifestations of curvature in the case of hypersurfaces.
