Effects of Modern Obstetrics on Human Development Using the Example of Premature Termination of Pregnancy

This chapter describes the endocrine, physiological changes of the pregnant woman in the last trimester. In addition, the effects of maternal hormones on the maturation of the fetal brain are presented. Premature termination of pregnancy disrupts this “maturation process” according to Michel Odent. Furthermore, the importance of the mother-child relationship is emphasized and observations by ethologists are compared. Inhumane traditions are named and solutions for a new science oriented towards the understanding of nature are proposed.
