The Role of Pharmacies within the Health Ecosystem

The aim of the present study is to understand the current situation of pharmacies and drugstores within the health ecosystem and to comprehend the role they play in the maintenance phase of a lifestyle change. To this end, a best-practice analysis of consulting models and collaborations in the health ecosystem was conducted. The analysis is based on a literature review on challenges and potentials of pharmacies as well as six expert interviews with managers of pharmacies and drugstores, which belong to the distribution network of the research partner Dr. Bähler Dropa AG. The results suggest a new positioning of pharmacies and drugstores within the changing health ecosystem, which also takes into account interprofessionalism.
