Subgroups and Homomorphisms

In this chapter, we examine subgroups, i.e., subsets of groups that form groups themselves, and maps (homomorphisms) between groups that transfer the group structure. We gain initial insights into which subgroups can occur in groups (Lagrange’s theorem), and we precisely define when two groups are to be considered “equal” (isomorphic).
