In statistical analysis the assumption of data coming from a normal distribution is often made. In fact, up until the end of the XIXth century, many people were convinced that there was no need for curves other than the normal distribution. Later, by the beginning of the XXth century, most informed opinion had accepted that populations might be non-normal.
