The word “stochastic process” is derived from the Greek noun “stokhos” which means “aim”. Another related Greek word “stokhastikos”, “the dart game”, provides an alternative image for randomness or chance. Although the concept of Probability is often associated with dice games, the dart game seems to be more adapted to the modern approach to both Probability Theory and Stochastic Processes.
