Sultanate of Oman is an Arabic speaking country, where the medium of instruction in pre-university education is Arabic. In Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) all sciences (including Statistics) are taught in English. The reason is that most of the scientific literature is in English and teaching in the native language may leave graduates at a disadvantage. Since only few instructors speak Arabic, the university adopts a policy of no communication in Arabic in classes and office hours. Students are required to achieve a minimum level in English (about 4.0 IELTS score) before they start their study program.
