How Does Automation Create Value?

Automation technology does not have a purpose of its own, but rather aims to perform tasks and, in doing so, generate an increase in added value for the application. For this reason, the focus of this chapter is on the question as to how automation technology has the ability to generate value in a meaningful way. The following questions will be the subject of a closer look: This chapter presents two examples of different methods that can be used to analyze and present the value of an automated product or system. Based on value analyses and promises, it is possible to estimate the added value of new technical capabilities and derive development priorities.
