Although the path forward is uncertain, the progress and evolution of automation technology can be analyzed with the help of future research methods. Maturity models that delineate potential development paths are presented in this chapter. In addition, it includes an examination of current trends allowing us to gain insights into the possible future directions automation technology may go in.
