Preface

Project management skills have been in demand for a very long time in human history. Large construction projects such as the Egyptian pyramids, Roman water supply systems, but unfortunately also wars in antiquity required good planning and control. The project management knowledge of those days was embedded in the skills of certain professions such as architects and builders. Over time, more and more new techniques and methods were developed, originating from the technical or military field. But it was not until the second half of the 20th century that this slowly evolved into the profession of the project manager as a distinct occupational profile. At the beginning of the 21st century, project management is now almost everywhere, in micro and small businesses and in multinational corporations. Whether used unconsciously or very consciously for optimal results, there is hardly an industry in which no projects are carried out. The Project Management Office (PMO) is a “tool” that can serve to further improve the benefits, efficiency, and success of projects, as well as the knowledge of employees in companies.
