China’s elderly population is currently facing a period of fast growth. The changes in the proportion of the elderly population are large scale, rapid, high peaking, geographically uneven and far reaching. In such a rapidly changing environment, elderly Chinese face a multitude of challenges in their lives. This article explores the construction of environmentally friendly retirement villages for migration care in China, and draws on elderly care tourism experiences from developed countries that faced an ageing population earlier.
