Editing Stories—Polishing the Diamond

  • Stefan Hammel

摘要

In therapy work, spontaneously improvised stories are often just as effective as carefully crafted narratives. Clients often respond better to authentic communication than to read-out content. Complex stories may require a written elaboration. When editing a story, unnecessary words should be removed, short sentences formed, and abstraction converted into concreteness. Direct speech should be used, evaluations avoided, and surprises not anticipated.
