Storytelling in Adult Therapy—Like a Pile of Ants

  • Stefan Hammel

摘要

Stories and metaphors can be used in therapeutic work with adults in a variety of ways for various stresses, such as bullying, burnout, and difficult family relationships and traumas. In experiences of overload such as grief or separation, a metaphor can help find meaning in life. In experiences of inner turmoil, aimlessness, or loss of identity, stories can help find a sense of purpose, generate confidence, and build something new after the old life has been destroyed. The narrated metaphors are often perceived by clients as more valuable than concrete tips and instructions.
