Memory
摘要
Memory is a complex and essential component of human cognition. It enables the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information over time. Without memory, language, social relationships, and personal identity could not develop. Understanding how memory functions as an information processing system is crucial to understanding the role that memory plays in our experience and behavior. Sensory memory plays an important role in our ability to perceive and process information from the environment. By storing information from the sensory organs for a short time, it provides the necessary basis for further processing and storage in short-term and long-term memory. Short-term memory enables us to handle many everyday tasks. Although its capacity is limited, we can apply techniques such as “chunking” to improve our ability to remember important information. Working memory is an important cognitive system that enables the storage and manipulation of information in memory and supports higher-order cognitive functions such as thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and behavior control. It consists of several subcomponents, including the central executive, the phonological loop, the episodic buffer, and the visuospatial sketchpad, each of which has its own function. Finally, long-term memory is a complex system that allows us to store and retrieve information over longer periods of time, it is divided into declarative and non-declarative or procedural memory.
