Statistics and Reliability of Technical Products
摘要
The train disaster of Eschede (Germany) in June 1998 with more than 100 deaths has shown which consequences can occur if a technical product fails. Only one wheel broke due to material fatigue. As a result, many trains were taken out of service for a long time, resulting in traffic chaos. Was that necessary at all? And could the accident have been avoided through better reliability analysis? Statistics have a lot to say about this.
