What Does Increased Energy Expenditure Mean for the Body?

  • Rainer H. Straub

摘要

In the preceding chapters, energy expenditure through different inflammatory and psychomotor situations was presented. Now, the significance of the higher energy expenditure through the immune system (inflammation) on the one hand, and the brain/muscles (psychomotor) on the other hand, is related to the energy expenditure of young and old healthy people. It becomes clear that the additional expenditures due to inflammatory and psychomotor situations must lead to a reduction in physical activity. Since the energy expenditure for physical activity predominantly decreases with aging, an additional energy consumption due to inflammation or psychomotor activation is particularly unfavorable for voluntary physical activity. Physical inactivity plays a causal role in the development of overweight and obesity and the associated secondary diseases such as heart attack and stroke.
