The End of a Great Love? Blue Valentine (US 2010)

In the film psychoanalytical commentary on Derek Giangrance’s Blue Valentin, which deals with the beginning and end of a couple relationship, I focus on two aspects that also correspond to the formal characteristics of the film (camera work and flashbacks). One thesis is that in the failing relationship, the pulsation of connectedness and separation no longer succeeds. The other thesis relates to the female perspective of the main character, which is examined more closely based on the special choice of object and the disappointment in her expectations.
