A Woman in Limbo—Lost in Translation (US 2003)

  • Andreas Hamburger

摘要

The article deals with the specific state of limbo that Lost in Translation (US 2003) triggers during viewing. It elaborates on the representation of the development of femininity as an encounter with the stranger within oneself, beyond cinema convention. The romantic plot is consistently undermined by an aesthetic of omission. Otherness is portrayed that one cannot familiarise oneself with by quick comprehension, but only by a slow approach.
