Rhythmische Konvergenz trotz metrischer Differenz? Ein Vergleich der brasilianischen und deutschen Metrik anhand ausgewählter Gedichte

This article compares the prosodic structure of two German and two Brazilian poems. The aim is to show that the rhythmic structures of a concrete German and Portuguese verse may be similar, but are not aesthetically equal. With Roman Jakobson (1960), the character of the concrete verse (verse instance) can only be grasped against the background of its metrical scheme (verse design). This scheme realises the possibilities of order given by the metrical system (verse type): The German poems studied follow the syllabo-tonic system (regulated number and position of metrical icts), the Brazilian ones the syllabic system (regulated number of syllables). The analysis will demonstrate that the two pairs of poems by Schiller and Gonçalves Dias and by Hofmannsthal and Bilac, respectively, do not converge on the level of verse instance, despite rhythmic similarities. A general overview of the theory of verse in Brazil serves as contextualisation.
