Translationsmodi an der Schnittstelle zwischen Mündlichkeit und Schriftlichkeit

The goal of this article is to contribute to the interdisciplinary research on orality with perspectives on translation and interpreting. We will describe and differentiate, by means of criteria rooted in Linguistics and Translation Studies, four special modes of translation that situate themselves at the intersection between orality and literacy. To begin with, the fundamental Immediacy-Distance Model by Koch/Oesterreicher (2012) and subsequent research based on that model will be touched upon from a linguistic perspective. Then focus will be placed on the description of the following translation modes: sight translation, telecommunications surveillance, speech-to-text interpreter, and live subtitling, which are less known to the general public. Using these examples, the historically outdated and simplified attribution of literacy as a characteristic of translation and orality as a characteristic of interpreting will be presented for discussion beyond our own subject area and put into perspective with intralingual, interlingual and intersemiotic translation categories.
