Tonsillitis—What Comes Next?

Several decades ago, there was great respect in Central Europe for sequelae of streptococcal diseases, foremost among them the full picture of rheumatic fever. For reasons that are ultimately not yet clearly understood, this has now almost never occurred in clinical practice, although other sequelae of streptococcal diseases such as Chorea minor and, as presented in this chapter, arthritis continue to be considered in everyday life. Conceptually, this is a reactive arthritis, which, however, does not follow the association with HLA-B27.
