A Toddler with an Unusually Early Tibia Fracture—What’s Behind It?

Early occurring fractures in infancy without corresponding trauma history require prompt investigation for important further indications of a) child abuse or b) an inherent predisposition to bone fragility. Both scenarios are serious and due to possible legal or therapeutic consequences, they must be differentiated quickly. The reported case of a family affected by Osteogenesis imperfecta provides insight into this discussion.
