Arthrogryposis

Arthrogryposis is not a specific diagnosis, but a symptom complex found in more than 300 disease patterns. This disease pattern is characterized by congenital, non-progressive restrictions of joint mobility up to joint stiffness, caused by missing, altered and/or underdeveloped musculature. The 5th chapter describes restrictions of the upper extremities from the shoulder joints to the fingers. Prior to the treatment options, a motion analysis is presented that captures the extent of the altered physiology in order to precisely analyze the activities and participation of the child. Conservative therapy plays a major role in this. Throughout the chapter, the classification of classic arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC), distal arthrogryposis, and syndromal arthrogryposis is discussed.
