The Glass Transition

WeGlass transition have no precise data about the place and time where the glassGlass was first produced; it is likely that it was discovered by chance, possibly in different places in the Middle East. The oldest archaeological finds from MesopotamiaMesopotamia and EgyptEgypt date back to around 3000 B.C. Figure 3.1 shows different ancient glassAncient glasses artifacts both from Roman times (Fig. 3.1a), dating back to the I Century AD and from funerary objects in an ancient Greek necropolis (Fig. 3.1b, c), dating back to the VII-V Century B.C. They all bear witness to an advanced ability to manufacture glassGlass. The shape perfection, the color control, and the refinement of the decorations of these objects make them comparable to present-day glassGlass and crystalCrystal glassGlass objects. Such a long-standing, well-documented glass-working ability is contrasted by the difficulties we encounter in understanding the nature of glassGlass and the essential features of the glass transitionGlass transition.
