In this chapter, the reader learns which vertebrates belong to the fish, how many recent fish species there are, what differences exist between cartilaginous fish, true bony fish, slime eels, lampreys, and lobe-finned fish, and how the evolution of fish has progressed. To further explain, a simplified family tree of fish is shown.
