Deep Neural Networks

The focus of this chapter is on deep neural networks, a special machine learning method in the field of artificial intelligence. These novel methods for solving learning problems are a development of “classical” neural networks and enjoy great popularity due to their performance (it is therefore recommended to study ► Chap. 20 ). The special features of these network architectures, their origin, the mode of operation and the associated disadvantages are illuminated. Furthermore, examples are given of how deep learning can be used in sports, from the acquisition of positional data to the evaluation of tactical game events.
