Artificial Data
摘要
This chapter introduces the technique of simulation and the associated generation of artificial data. In contrast to real-world data sets, processes are modelled mathematically and the results of the processes are simulated by means of random number generation. By means of this approach, data can be generated relatively easily and in large quantities. Therefore, it is not necessary to rely entirely on experimentally collected data or data observed in real-world events. Due to the difficulty of experimental manipulations in professional sports and the limited size, consistency, and quality of real-world sports data, artificial data offer a useful alternative or extension in the analysis of sports-specific questions.
