In our previous considerations, we have simplistically described bodies as point masses. In this chapter we will partially abandon this simplification in order to approach a more realistic description of objects in nature. Now we move to rigid bodies understood to be an extended body that cannot be deformed, not even by external forces. This step introduces rotations as new degrees of freedom. We will start the discussion with static situations, introducing torque as an important new quantity.
