Axonal Regeneration in the Peripheral Nervous System

  • Lars P. Klimaschewski

摘要

The first chapter describes the structure and regeneration of peripheral nerves following injury. In addition to the anatomical and clinical basics, the cellular and molecular biological aspects of the neuronal response to a peripheral nerve lesion are presented. A separate section is dedicated to the neuroplasticity triggered in the central nervous system, which plays an important role in the development of neuropathic pain. This is followed by the surgical and conservative treatments of peripheral nerve injuries and the discussion of novel and experimental therapies such as cell transplants, electrical stimulations, bioprostheses, and modern rehabilitation methods.
