More Group Theory—Group Actions and Sylow's Theorems
摘要
In this chapter, we consider group actions. Many groups are defined merely by the fact that they naturally act on sets (or geometric structures, for example). We prove fundamental statements about such group actions, especially in the case of actions of finite groups on finite sets. In addition, we formulate and prove the Sylow theorems which are used as an important step in the attempt to classify finite groups.
