Immunopathology
摘要
Innate and adaptive immunity are two broad categories of immune response against infection. Innate immunity generates an inflammatory response, triggered by activation of cellular receptors (e.g. Toll-like receptors) against microorganisms and cell injury byproducts, leading to downstream biochemical cascades of cytokine release, complement activation, and interferon release (the latter in response to viral infections). Innate immunity also provides activating signals to the adaptive immune system, which has the capacity to develop memory and specificity against new foreign antigens.
