This chapter defines and explores the terms diatribe, tirade, and rant as they relate to and function within the genre of satire. While a diatribe is a recognized form of expression that contributed much to the development of western satire, a tirade and a rant are better considered as rhetorical tools of satire used to attack specific targets.
