Spiritual Care und Existential Care: Zwei unterschiedliche Konzepte oder doch alles ähnlich?

Je nach Profession und kulturellem Kontext werden die Begrifflichkeiten Existential Care und Spiritual Care unterschiedlich verwendet. Beiden Konzeptionen gemeinsam sind die Dimensionen der Suche nach Sinn und Bedeutung, Verbundenheit, Versöhnung und innerem Frieden mitten im Leben. Der spezifische Aspekt des Religiösen, des Glaubens, der religiösen Verbundenheit und entsprechender Rituale sowie Sakramente wird eher der Seelsorge als spezialisierter Spiritual Care zugeordnet, die sehr wohl auch die existenzielle Dimension des Diesseitigen im Blick hat. Beide Begriffe können gerade in säkularen Gesellschaften auch inhaltlich begründet differenziert angewendet werden. Problematisch ist der Begriff des Spirituellen, wenn sich das eigene Empfinden nicht mit den theoretischen Konzeptionen deckt oder wenn das spezifisch Religiöse seitens der Patient:innen negativ konnotiert ist und sie eine Spiritual-Care-Begleitung daher für sich ablehnen würden, obwohl sie sehr wohl existenzielle Bedürfnisse haben, diese dann aber nicht ins Gespräch bringen. Depending on the profession and cultural context, the terms Existential Care and Spiritual Care are used differently. Common to both conceptions are the dimensions of the search for meaning and purpose, connectedness, reconciliation and inner peace in the midst of life. The specific aspect of faith, beliefs, religious connection, and the corresponding rituals and sacraments is assigned more to pastoral care as specialized spiritual care, which of course also addresses the existential dimension of this world. Both terms can be used in a differentiated way, especially in secular societies. The concept of the Spiritual is problematic if one’s own feelings do not correspond to the theoretical conceptions or if the specifically Religious has negative connotations for the patient, and they therefore would reject a spiritual care support, even when they may have specific existential need, but conceal them.
