摘要

Spiritual Care means a multidisciplinary accompaniment and support for sick, old and stressed people. For that purpose, the perception, assessment, and reliable documentation of spiritual needs for a multi-professional exchange and support planning is essential. For such a structured assessment and documentation, the German-language Spiritual Needs Questionnaire (SpNQ) is available since 2010. With its 20 (+ 7) items, it addresses four main dimensions of spiritual needs. The short and orienting Screener with 10 items is particularly suitable for weak people in a palliative situation. These assessment instruments could therefore be a starting point for talks on these topics, which are regarded as essential for the patients, but are easily overlooked in everyday clinical practice. The necessary responses of the therapeutic team towards the documented needs should be based on the intensity of specific spiritual needs. However, there is no mandate to satisfy all patients’ needs, but to initiate and accompany clarification and solution processes. Just that these needs are recognized at all is significant for many patients.
