Warum es uns alle angeht. Anthropologische Grundlegung von Spiritualität

Aufgrund eines gesteigerten Interesses an Spiritualität im internationalen medizinischen Kontext bei gleichzeitiger Zurückhaltung im deutschsprachigen gesundheitsbezogenen Zusammenhang widmet sich dieser Beitrag der Fragestellung, inwiefern Spiritualität zum Kerngeschäft der Medizin gehört bzw. inwiefern sie überhaupt für medizinische Versorgungskontexte auch jenseits palliativer, seelsorgerischer Versorgung am Lebensende von Relevanz ist. Dazu wird sowohl in einer Begriffsanalyse das Spiritualitätsverständnis im medizinischen Diskurs und im Diskurs um Spiritual Care beleuchtet als auch darauf aufbauend eine anthropologische Fundierung von Spiritualität präsentiert. Damit wird der grundlegenden Frage nachgegangen, inwiefern Spiritualität ein anthropologisches Existential darstellt und welchen Bezug sie zur (Medizin-)Ethik hat. Der Beitrag verfolgt die Zielsetzung, sowohl konzeptionell einen Beitrag zur Klärung von Spiritualität und ihren Dimensionen zu leisten als auch für die sich daraus ergebenden Konsequenzen zur Rolle und Relevanz von Spiritualität in medizinischer Versorgung zu sensibilisieren. Due to an increased interest in spirituality in the international medical context combined with reluctance in the German-speaking health-related context, this article addresses the question of to which extent spirituality is part of the core business of medicine or even relevant for medical care contexts beyond palliative, pastoral care towards the end of life. For this purpose, the understanding of spirituality in the medical discourse and in the discourse on spiritual care has been examined in a conceptual analysis and, based on this, an anthropological foundation of spirituality is introduced here. This raises the fundamental question of how far spirituality represents an anthropological existential and how it relates to (medical) ethics. The aim of the article is to make a conceptual contribution to clarifying spirituality and its dimensions, as well as to raise awareness of the resulting consequences for the role and relevance of spirituality in medical care.
