Family-Based Approaches to Treatment

摘要

Family-based concepts are the foundation of a multiprofessional obesity therapy for children and adolescents. In addition to genetic predisposition, both early childhood imprinting of eating and exercise habits and the parenting style of the parents play a relevant role in weight development. The social system of the family, with its interaction processes, is at the center of the intervention. Desired behavioral changes must be accepted and implemented within the family. The risk groups for obesity in children and adolescents—families with low socioeconomic status and/or migration background—pose a particular challenge. A resource-oriented and naturalistic treatment approach aims to lead to positive change experiences and thus to a sustainable motivation for patients and families.
