Psychosocial Factors of Obesity in Childhood and Adolescence
摘要
This article addresses psychosocial factors that should be considered in the context of obesity in childhood and adolescence. In particular, the role of stigmatization experiences is discussed, which are not only widespread but also considered the source of comorbid psychological problems. Specifically, depressive disorders, disturbed eating behavior, as well as aggressive and impulsive behavior have been found more frequently in children and adolescents with obesity compared to the population norm. The group of children and adolescents participating in weight loss programs is particularly affected. A reduced quality of life is very common. Psychological problems have a significant impact on further weight development and should be brought into focus in treatment.
