Elementary Terms

This chapter outlines the basic terms and concepts of technical reliability and the associated disciplines as a basis for understanding the following chapters. The explanation of the elementary terms is based on definitions in the relevant standard and normative works. The presentation of the terms is selectively supplemented by a technical perspective to facilitate understanding in the engineering application context. Terms are defined respectively explained from disciplines Technical Realiability, product and process characteristics, maintenance, measurement/testing processes and risk analytics.
