Technical Reliability and Product Emergence Process

Technical reliability is a characteristic of a product or a process. The analysis of technical reliability takes place in various phases of the product emergence process or the product life cycle. Furthermore, technical reliability is elementary for risk analysis and risk prevention in the development and production of new product generations and in the assessment of product operation in the use phase. This chapter outlines the product emergence process and product life cycle with elementary phases and activities with a focus on technical reliability (Sect. 2.1). Furthermore, possibilities of influence and confidence in decision making with regard to the technical reliability of a product are shown in the context of risk prevention in development, production and field use (Sect. 2.2).
