Significance Tests

Chapter 13 focuses on data analysis on the basis of significance tests (hypothesis tests). Section 13.1 introduces the topic of significance testing and explains possible objectives in the context of an application example. The fundamentals of significance testing as well as the associated key indicators and terminology are the focus of Sect. 13.2. Significance tests for the investigation of an existing series of measurements—the one-sample case—are presented in Sect. 13.3. If analyses are performed on the basis of observations within two series of measurements (two-sample case), Sect. 13.4 shows suitable significance tests. If more than two samples are available, investigations with significance tests for the multiple sample case can be used; Sect. 13.5.
