Correlation and Regression

In technical reliability analysis, many studies focus on the dependence or correlation of various function- or safety–critical characteristics on each other: correlation analysis and the regression analysis that often goes hand in hand with it can be used to map the relationship between two or more variables. Section 10.1 shows the basics and outlines some fields of application. Subsequently, Sect. 10.2 presents bivariate correlation analysis in detail. Section 10.3 is devoted to bivariate regression analysis for the determination of a functional relationship. The application of correlation and regression analysis within various case studies as well as the interpretation of the results are shown in Sects. 10.4 and 10.5 (apparent or pseudo causality and correlation).
