Francis Bacon in Deutschland. Johann Wilhelm von Stubenbergs Übersetzung der Essays (1654)
摘要
The article is devoted to one of the few 17th century translations of Francis Bacon’s works into German, namely Johann Wilhelm von Stubenberg’s translation of the Essays published in 1654. The genesis of the translation and, in particular, questions concerning the motivation for the project are discussed, as well as Stubenberg’s method of translation. Moreover, the article highlights the context of the publication, namely its anchoring in the network of the Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft, as a member of which Stubenberg acted, and the group-specific reading interests and formation of tradition associated with it.
