Übersetzung des Mediums – Medialität der Übersetzung. Die deutschen Ausgaben der Schriften Jane Leades

This article examines the German translations of the English visionary Jane Leade (1623–1704). The co-founder of the London „Philadelphian Society“ published numerous religious writings from 1681 onwards, which were translated into German by Loth Fischer starting in the mid-1690s. Fischer’s translations are characterised by a high degree of faithfulness to the original. He also supplemented the German editions with additional paratexts to support their reception. The importance of fidelity to the original can be gauged from the traces of reading found in a Viennese copy of „Die Nun brechende und sich zertheilende Himmlische Wolcke“ (1694). In addition, the article asks what influence visions have on central concepts of literary studies such as that of the author or mediality.
