Star Structure and Star Development

In this rather extensive chapter, we put together the basic equations for calculating the principal structure of stars. However, it must be emphasized that only a rather rough picture can be presented here. Detailed star models are the subject of numerous research institutes worldwide. First, we present a simple model for luminous (burning through nuclear fusion) starsStarburning. SubsequentlyStarluminous, we discuss stellar energy sources. Our sun is, for understandable reasons, the most thoroughly studied luminous star. Important results of solar physics are briefly presented. The transition to other possible types of stars requires a more detailed analysis of the equations of state. After an overview of the various possibilities, we leave the stationary approximation and take a closer look at structure formation and the beginnings of stars.
