Risks from Belt Drying Plants for Sewage Sludge

ATEX related properties of dewatered sludge (gas explosion) and dried sludge (dust explosion) are presented in detail. Static electricity in case of plastiv woven belts is discussed as a possible ignition course. Special safety recommendations are given for directly fired sludge dryers. The Safety Integrity Level SIL and Performance Level PL of controls are briefly described. Also, HAZOP for belt dryers is briefly presented.
